Great article on Clay Christensen’s Milkshake Theory. Major point taken from the article is that entrepreneurs should understand the “job” the customer wants done and build a product that properly fulfills that need. The most successful companies (including Swiffer!) have followed this simple concept. Avoid the “feature-creep” and just make the best tool for the job.

Food for thought for any entrepreneurs (me included) who have suffered from complusive-target-market-researchitis.

I’m currently working on a side project with developers in China and Australia.
I use my macbook widgets to keep track of the 12+ hours (China) and 14+ hours (Aussie).
To put it in perspective, when I am having a late-afternoon snack on Wednesday in New York, these guys are getting a bowl of fruit loops and reading the paper on Thursday. :)

Step #1: Wait until your friend steps away from their computer

Step #2: Insert the above link and set as homepage on their browser

Step #3: Watch and laugh as your friend attempts to search Google

Step #4: (optional) Tell your friend that Google servers were hacked by the Chinese Government and that this is how they have to search Google for the remainder of the day {insert evil laugh here}

Check In at Foursquare and Save the World

foursquare

This is a pretty novel idea. Non-profit law organization Earthjustice takes to the streets with their newest target, unsafe oil drilling. Their newest campaign is no doubt inspired by the horrific BP oil spill which has polluted the Gulf of Mexico.

Earthjustice allows Foursquare users to check in at “Earthjustice Ad.” When you check in at an officially assigned point, $10 will be donated to stop unsafe oil drilling.

So whip out that mobile device and do it!

Haha. I think this holds true in many aspects.

For me, though, removing this loophole just comes down to basic fairness. A fireman who runs into burning buildings shouldn’t pay a higher tax rate than a financier sunbathing on a yacht eating $400 crabs.
